About
Graduating from the University of North Carolina, Asheville with a degree in art history introduced me to ideas and philosophies across the geographical and chronological spectrum of life. War, peace, tragedy, happiness, family, loners, lovers, grief, movers, meditators—the body language and facial expressions, relative to the immediate encounters and influences of experience, remain similar. I explore what I imagine goes on inside a person, not so much the cause. Irrespective of outer circumstances, watching how the body reacts and moves—facial expressions, gestures, posture—is a study in itself. In the studio, I tangle with the reverberations and interpretations I imagine. Working with concrete materials, in a non-linear, non-verbal way, sometimes I get closer to my own feelings. Still, making a good painting is the goal. Whatever that may be, the painting knows!
